I've had a couple of crazy shifts lately. But mostly some experiences that remind me that I belong in the ER. Despite the crazy schedule and chaotic atmosphere, I thrive on it. Since I started charging, I've been put in situations that have pushed me and helped me to grow. Last week I had a 12 yr old come in after having a gas stove explode all over her. She was my hero. Covered from head to toe in full thickness burns, she simply sat there asking for the pain to go away. No thrashing or screaming just trembling asking to make it better. This little girl broke my heart watching her in that much pain. Her little sister not much better. Both were incredibly brave. The night was pure chaos. Bucket-loads of people poured into the ER only adding to the stress of critical patients--crits less than 2, coding in the room, etc. But my co-workers were amazing. I knew they were tired. My feet HATED me after 12 hours straight on my feet. But they stayed helped and made sure our patients were taken care of. Brave little kids and my workers--yeah I think I'll stay in the ER for a while longer.
what a patient. i had a burn patient like that and it makes you think how you would respond as the patient.
