Funny Weston Story

In order to remind myself there is still good in the world I went over to Scott and Amber's today ad played with that one kid named Weston. We watched Cars and he got REALLY excited about it. The best part was after his bath. Weston loves to run around in his birthday suit. Amber wrestled his diaper on him after a few runs. Well, he decided to lock himself in their bedroom. After a few minutes of giggling and various noises, Amber opened the door to find Weston sitting stark naked in the middle of her bed holding his diaper. I had to leave I was laughing so hard. He just kept parading himself around on her bed quite proud of himself. Don't you just love little boys.

My Pretend Wedding--Rachel this is for you!

I went to see Bride Wars tonight with Becky and loved it!! I can't wait to see it again. Well in honor of that and in request of Rachel here are my pretend wedding plans :D. No cost is considered or anything along those lines. (life is basically the same so I am trying to find something interesting to post)

My Wedding Dress: I'm not very fancy but I love color. I love simple lace patterns. So I want something like this but with sleeves :D.

The Engagement Ring: I am a princess cut person. I love the 3 diamond combo with white gold in a fancy band. I love bands that are different from just the basic. But it can't be very big cause I will injure myself otherwise.
The Cake: Okay it must be chocolate that is not an option. Yes, Cheryl you will be making it. I love flowers on cakes. The white frosting flowers would be real plumerias and no ugly bow on top.
Flowers: I LOVE plumerias! Overall I want hawaiian theme with deep rich colors,

Hair Style: I would love to have my hair mostly down in long wavy curls. Something styled like this.

Bridesmaid Dresses: This style in various light colors but not pastels!

Pictures: I want my engagments/bridals taken in the moutains with the changing of the leaves. I'm in love with the mountains and their colors.

Color Scheme: I don't want any specific colors but here is some of the overall colorage that I want to seen:

Temple: The Mt Timp Temple is also the one I will be sealed in.

There it is; the extent of any wedding plans I have. Enjoy Rachel and yes you should do this as a career!!

Oh I forgot my groom!

and yes Tom should propose any day now!

The 100 Foot Fall

I love floating! It gives me the chance to take care of some pretty interesting traumas. Tonight was no exception.

A teenage girl came in after her and her friend pulled a superman off a 100ft cliff. This poor girl hand the snowmobile land on top of her. Their helmets were knocked off when they landed. Seriously, it is a miracle they didn't die. My girl had no outside trauma except a small bruise to her left side. After scanning her from head to toe we discovered she had turned her spleen into mush and lost the circulation to her kidney. Come to find out later that she was high on Marijuana and drunk. Its sad what teenagers can get a hold of these days and the problems they get into early on. I still pray for her and hope that her one good kidney is still kicking.

A Broken System and The Idiot

I must admit I did not have the best attitude at work tonight and many events that occurred did not help it.

1st: One of the least favorite things I get to deal with are the psychiatric patients. On this particular evening I had a young male come in, not in a happy mood. This guy was about 4 times my size and had the mental processes of a 10 year-old. I was busy and didn't spend a lot of time in his room. I've learned that as long as you don't aggrivate these types of people the night goes so much better. Well unfortunately it had gotten to the point where a decision had to be made. I had 6 cops and two male techs to help move the patient who refused to leave. The poor guy went bizurk and lashed out trying to bite and kick. He ended up being rolled out on a bad cuffed and strapped down only to spend a night in a jail cell--that is not where he needed to be. Its simply the result of a broken system that no one wants to fix. Because we are the ER we see a lot of these cases--the people that no one else wants. Its truly sad.

2nd: To end the night I had 2 drunken idoits who came in stone cold drunk with a nasty laceration on his hand. Muscle, tissue, and lots of blood were exposed. He just kept going on and on and on about how he didn't want his parents to know he was drunk. (he had sliced his hand open by getting in a drunk fight with his roommate) He had a nasty mouth and I once again heard the f word over and over and over. Seriously, this is my generation?! Heaven help us all. It was pretty cool to irrigate all the muscle and tissue exposed. I know I have problems.

Night of Extremes

Wow! My shift seriously went from one extreme to the other. I was the floatee RN tonight and basically covered lunches for the first half of the shift the other was filled with many bizarre cases.

1st: An extremely large man came in with an open sore on his foot that was openly weeping a fluid of some sort. The sore was so deep I could see the infected tissue and the bone. Well in order to fix the broken ankle he had to be sedated. He didn't go down easy and kept yelling, "It's not pain free yet!! It's not pain free yet!!" The wound was an amazing display of pus and juices.

2nd: Pediatric central opened up later that night. We had everything from multiple actively seizing children to a baby coming in with nurse maid elbow--if you child starts screaming after falling or picking him up plz don't come to the ER, call me he probably popped his elbow out of place.

3rd: An older man came in by ambulance after cardiac arresting. One of the worst parts of this job is watching a family cry as the doctor tells them there is no hope for their husband/dad. You fight like crazy to keep their heart beating only to find out their brain checked out.

4th: Drunken Idiots--These people always provide the most entertaining stories. This morning I two young drunks show up, one with a cop the other with friends. One had a bloody face because he decided to resist arrest and was completely out of control. The idiot kept talking back to the cop and totally not cooperating with us. I'm glad he was in handcuffs when I stuck a needle in his arm. The other man had his friends sitting there telling him over and over and over and over to sit down and relax while I sucked blood and convinced him it was okay to urinate in a cup. I seriously had to leave the room a few times I was laughing so hard. Yeah, its not quite a weekend shift until I've had a drunk person yell the f word at me 10 times. Oh the joys of getting drunk.

Now its almost 8 am and I am wide awake begging for sleep. Gotta love the night shift :D

The Finger Left in the Door

My shift tonight wasn't extremely busy or insane but I had a few interesting cases. Kids are always interesting.

This poor little girl came in after having her finger smashed in the door. I walk in the room and her dad showed me the tip of her finger in a napkin. I for the love of pete could not get the finger to stop bleeding. I had to numb her finger twice before she would even let me touch it. I have to give her credit though--she screamed like a banshee but she didn't move her finger once. She kept asking over and over is that going to hurt? After the tenth reassurance I started cleaning off her finger. "I didn't feel that at all!! You were right?" It was so funny. The human body never ceases to amaze me. The doctor was able to sew the tip of her finger and burn a whole in her nail to let the blood out. Lots of blood and sutures later, this poor girl had her finger back. By the time we put the bandage on and the splint--she had broken it too--her finger looked like a gun. It seriously was gynormous. She was so happy by the end she looked and me waved and said THANK YOU!! Not that its the most important part but hearing that helps me to know that I've done at least something right.

This is not her actual finger but one I found on the internet that looked kinda like it.

Angels

Walking on to work tonight was insane. I came onto work and discovered we had 3 pediatric traumas, a full trauma, and a cardiac arrest coming within 10minutes of each other. It turns out that a full minivan of kids were hit head on. When the ambulances arrive kids seemed to explode from everywhere. We had kids ranging from a few months old to tween ages with variable injuries. Most of them all turned out to be okay--a few scrapes and bruises. Overall they are lucky no one was killed. The worst part of it all though was watching one of the girls sit on the floor and stare into space. I could tell she was in shock and was close to tears. It broke my heart because there was nothing really I could do for her but sit next to her. I can't imagine going through something like that let alone as a kid. One of the cutest parts was when the younger girl sat next to her baby brother and stroked his face while we did out tests. So sweet and kind--she sat there and comforted her brother the whole time.

I believe in angels. Especially, guardian angels that watch over little kids in tragic situations. And real life angels who stand by ready to help those that need in, even in the smallest ways.

Why I Started This Blog

My Job is hectic, insane, and chaotic. I have had some the saddest and funniest moments in the ER. To help me cope with everything that comes my way I created this blog to record my stories and experiences. This way my family and friends can see what I do on almost a daily basis. So here is my job as a glance.
