Running, Running, Running

The older I get the more convinced I am that my brain doesn't have the brain cells it needs to make good decisions. Why else would I run 20+ miles on 2 hrs of sleep, in a truck, with 8 other people? Once again Red Rock Relay Zions came around. This year was not without its adventures. I went from a whole team of 12 to 6 then ended with 9.  Lets just say my stress levels were a little high the night before the race.

The adventure began during the drive down. Robert, Beth, and I piled into the truck and watched as Amberly and Jarom took off like mad men down the road. We drove up and up to Brian Head to pick up the bag of goodies for my peeps. We were "marked" on top and proudly strutted around with our numbers.  The condo was awesome and such a great place to crash the night before. We crashed in one room on bunk beds. We all fell asleep to Robert playing Sexy Sax Man. Stupid song was stuck in my head all night.

All to soon 0400 the alarms went off. Five very tired people piled into the truck and we drove up to the Top of Brian head to begin the Crazy Race. Now with my Type A personality I had everything planned out and legs assigned but it all went up in the air and we just picked each leg 10 min before we ran. The top was a bit nippy and we did a fun dance to stay warm. Amberly started us off and sprinted away at 0615. Poor girl froze to death going up and down that mountain. After that we each took a turn running and running and running. My favorite was the 1 mile to go markers that are sarcastic and entertaining. The mountain views were gorgeous and the colors were just starting to change. My team kicked butt and we met up with the other van and chatted for a bit. Haha actually we were trying to decide how to divide up the legs between each van.

After waiting forever to get food and thinking we were okay, the other van called us and we had to take off to the next exchange. The best part was the sunset amongst the angry clouds. The weather was so different from last year. We ran in the mud this time around. Thank goodness we were in a truck or I am pretty sure we would have gotten stuck. Poor Robert and Jarom got back in the truck sopping went with heavier shoes. The best was they still have great times.

Thank goodness we were closer to the condo and we were actually able to get an hour of sleep before we headed off to do our last legs. My body was NOT happy with me at this point but I ignored it. Don't worry I paid for it later. The last leg I had was over Sunrise. Thats the fun part we were awake for every Sunrise and Sunset for those 2 days. We had a LOT of motivation to get down fast though. When we came up that last hill I was so excited that we were done!! My last leg was a beast and I had to walk up part of the never ending hill.

After was passed on the torch we drove straight to the finish line, grabbed some blankets, and crashed. Though I don't think I actually slept. Ants decided we were mountains they had to climb. Yeah not so fun! After a few hours of dozing, we got the call and Krystal was running up the hill. Seriously, that girl is superwoman! I don't know how she does it.

We did a quick picture and headed out quickly to get some sleep! Well actually food was more important and the best place for that? Red Robin. I love them. After a shower and feeling slightly human again we all waddled out to eat. We did swap stories joked about the adventures and disbelief at what we had actually just finished. Three people less than last year and we finished two hours before our time last year. I had a blast and honestly can't wait to do it again. Though I will probably need to train a bit more.  The post race waddle is aways fun.

We headed home Sunday morning and laughed at all the crazy vans we saw headed the same way. I love the honking and cheering we had between the vans going home too. Maybe everyone was missing a few brain cells that day.
