The Finger Left in the Door

My shift tonight wasn't extremely busy or insane but I had a few interesting cases. Kids are always interesting.

This poor little girl came in after having her finger smashed in the door. I walk in the room and her dad showed me the tip of her finger in a napkin. I for the love of pete could not get the finger to stop bleeding. I had to numb her finger twice before she would even let me touch it. I have to give her credit though--she screamed like a banshee but she didn't move her finger once. She kept asking over and over is that going to hurt? After the tenth reassurance I started cleaning off her finger. "I didn't feel that at all!! You were right?" It was so funny. The human body never ceases to amaze me. The doctor was able to sew the tip of her finger and burn a whole in her nail to let the blood out. Lots of blood and sutures later, this poor girl had her finger back. By the time we put the bandage on and the splint--she had broken it too--her finger looked like a gun. It seriously was gynormous. She was so happy by the end she looked and me waved and said THANK YOU!! Not that its the most important part but hearing that helps me to know that I've done at least something right.

This is not her actual finger but one I found on the internet that looked kinda like it.
