I love the tradition this trip is becoming. Similar to last year Levi & Crystal organized the whole thing. We drove up Wednesday after working our three shifts in a row. Levi, Crystal, Becky, Rachel, Justin, Gina, John, Melissa, Crystal's sister and cousin were the group this year--a lot bigger from last year.
The first night we got up there and set up camp. Before that we ate at a pizza place out in the middle of no where. You could tell we were all tired though. I have no memory of the car ride up. The conversation went from weird to weirder. Setting up camp that night was even better in the dark.
After sleeping in we headed up to Jenny Lake. In order to pull this off we all crammed into 2 cars and then down to one to get into the park for free. We got REALLY cozy--to the point where I was sitting on the middle consulate and some people were on laps. Good thing we are all friends. The hike wasn't bad at all. It was the excuse to break out my chacos again--I love the tan lines. The waterfall at the top was my favorite. Nothing is more beautiful than waterfalls. We hiked around, made fun off the scouts who were jumping into the lake screaming "oh my gosh oh my gosh its cold!" and ate some good food! I laughed when all of us fell asleep on the cement after the hike though. Apparently, I'm not as in shape as I thought I was. From the hike we crammed into the car again and headed to Jackson. I was beat by this point so as we waited for our meet time I met Levi and Crystal in the park and slept. The grass has never felt so good! During the ride in the car we discovered Micheal Jackson died so we had a tribute and watched Jutstin dance--Good thing we had video. That tribute went well with the Backstreet Boys one we hd done earlier that day. Dinner that night was at Bubbas. Yeah its as greasy as it sounds but the sauce was so good. I did manage to get it all over my face. I could feel my cholesterol get higher though. On our way out Justin managed to steal a log and a newspaper. From that article we discovered the homosexual demon extraction article. People think we are nuts as Mormons. The quotes went on about the crazy people demanding the demon come out of its stomach or throat. It had us laughing for hours. That night I got to roast my marshmallows! Its a tradition and necessity for me at every campout to have roasted marshmallows. We crammed again into our tent. 7 of us crammed into one tent little room--LOTS of crazy stories. I got kicked a few times to say the least. But some some stories came out of it.
Friday was my favorite day! Why because I got to raft. We all woke up and discovered the pooring rain. Of course it had leaked into the tent. Needless to say we stayed in bed. Only the call of nature got us out of bed that morning. Even then we all huddled around the makeshift tarp and ate our bagles with cream cheese. Personally I was crossing my fingers the rain would stop because the river was going to be cold enough. To stall for time we went back to the tent and played catch phrase. I love the references and secret jokes we used to come up with the words. The rain eventually stopped, the sun came out, and it was time to RAFT!!!!! I had learned from last year and planned on renting a wet suit. I had my rash guard and noncotton shorts on this time. After a long delay--someone had been caught in the river and required CPR (they didn't make it) we loaded up the bus. We laughed at the 16 scouts on the bus with us. Yeah scouts are the same no matter where they are from. One of Crystal's friends was our guide. Oh can I just say that wetsuits are the least flattering piece of clothing. To be honest we all looked like blue smurfs in our splash gear. Completely worth it though. I remember freezing last year--this year I was not cold at all. We made it through the first rapid without a problem. I sat in the middle taking pictures of the waves coming over the top of us. My favorite rapid was Lunch Counter. 7 15ft waves one after the other. Your heart kinda jumps into your stomach as the boat goes down and you see the wave getting bigger above you. I got hit a couple of times pretty hard but I did not fall in!!! Well actually I was plastered--but so was everyone else :D. After we came out on top we flipped around to watch John and Melissa go through on the Duckie. I thought they would flipp over for sure but they came out on top--we did see a couple feet up in the air though. we played a few games and got the raft sucked in a few times and crashed into a few other rafts. Crystal and I almost got knocked out when that happened. After one rapid we discovered a HUGE bug ontop of Rachel's head and watched her freak out until we got it off. Don't ask me where it came from. I was so sad it was over. I could have gone another 3 times. I wasn't cold but really wet. I did bring some dry clothes to change into. On the way back we stopped at Chevron for hot chocolate. Nothing has ever tasted so good. On our way back to the campsite it began pooring rain again--my sleeping bag was outside at the time. Yeah bad thing. It did manage to stop in time for us to cook our tinfoil dinners. I sat and watched the coals flame up and get really hot. So I read my book and finally got my feet to a warm state. Campfires are amazing to watch--Levi did go over board on the lighter fluid so it was a BIG fire. I fried a couple marshmallows and went to bed. I don't know why but I started sneezing, coughing, and just feeling like crap so I didn't sleep very well.
I was sad to come home. Once again I slept most of the way home but I did wake up and eat at a park. We watched Justin climb ontop of the canopy and do a dance. Levi smash Rachel and Becky on the slide and steam roll Crystal on the grass. We're all worn out and my laundry still needs to be done, but I can wait to go again next year!
