AF Canyon

Racing is one of my new favorite hobbies. I'm no expert at it yet but I get such a sense of accomplishment after I do it. The AF Canyon Half is a new one 2 years old actually--but its greatly associated with Intermountain, I also found out 2 of my favorite people were running it with me--Mckell and RaeAnn. I grew up down the street from these amazing chicas and have loved getting to know them again. The day had everything against it. I got off 3 shifts in a row at 0130 and headed to my parents house to hang out for a bit. At 0340--after trying to keep myself awake--I drove up and was on the first bus up the canyon.

At the top, I'm so glad I remembered warmer clothes, the wind and chill were out of control. But people arrived by the busload---literally. Soon enough I had to strip my warm clothes and shiver for a bit before the guns went off. Luckily, Mckell and RaeAnn kept me company along the race swapping stories and keeping me running at a pace I would die. I should mention Mckell did this as 21 weeks pregnant. Yeah she is on my list of heroes now!

The Canyon was beautiful at sunrise and didn't get warm until the finish line. I loved that race mostly downhill in the beginning which I'm sure helped me time. We crossed the finish line all together at 2:25:06. My best time yet! With being physically afflicted, mentally exhausted, emotionally drained it was just the accomplishment I needed. Plus,  they gave me a cool medal. Mentally I came out on top this time. Something I need to remember time to time. I have control over me and my body but nothing else.  Now if only my body would quit being mad at me and let me walk like a human being.

  1. It was so much fun and I can't wait to do something with you again! You are a fabulous person and I love you! As the day rolls on and my waddles go away I keep thinking "yeah maybe I can do that again, and maybe we should make it a new tradition to do the Dirty Dash and the AF Half. You inspire me to be a better person.
