Mothers

Mother's Day was different this year. I worked crazy shifts and crammed as much family time in as I could. Sunday was my favorite. I was actually able to see my mom on Mother's Day--its been a few years. The highlight was when my WHOLE family was able to talk. Seriously, what would we do without technology. Kevin is serving in Fortaleza, Brazil right now. For Mother's Day he was able to skype with us! A sweet local member allowed him to use their computer and web cam. It was quite comical really. Scott, Amber, Weston, and Catherine were on the laptop in Illinois; Kevin in Brazil; Dad, Kristi, Grandpa and I were in the living room on Dad's Laptop; and Mom, Kalli, Grandma, Mark and Heather were on Mom's laptop in the dining room. It wasthe first time my whole family has seen each in 18 months. Now I'm even more excited for Christmas!! Kevin cracks me up. He and Mark trashed talked each other in Portuguese, while meeting Heather for the first time. Kevin hasn't changed. "Stupid" is still his favorite phrase. Talking with everyone was definitely my favorite part of the day.

I've thought a lot about womanhood lately. What it means to be a woman. I've grown up knowing I am a Daughter of Good, but I don't think I've always known really what that meant.
In Young Women's I was given the talk by James E. Faust,

Being a Daughter of God means that if you seek it, you can find your true identity. You will know who you are. This will make you free--not free from restraints, but free from doubts, anxieties, or peer pressure. You will not need to worry, 'Do I look all right? Do I sound OK? What do people think of me?' A conviction that you are a daughter of God gives you a feeling of comfort in your self-worth. It means that you can find strength in the balm of Christ. It will help you meet the heartaches and challenges with faith and serenity.

You sisters do not know the full extent of your influence. You sisters enrich all of humanity. All human life begins with you.

A woman can and must have an identity and feel useful, valued, and needed whether she is single or married. She must feel that she can do something for someone else that no one else ever born can do."

I have such amazing women in my life who show me who I can become. Thank you to all the mother's and women in my life. But mostly I need to thank my mom. I honestly do not know where I would be without her. Thank you mom! I hope one day to be more like you.
